Vembanyama still does not believe in his participation in the Olympic Games

The 20-year-old French basketball player, who plays power forward and center, Victor Oubemblè, expressed his feelings and expectations regarding his upcoming participation in the 2024 Olympic Games.

“Going to the Olympic Games is always a dream. I see it almost like any other sporting experience, but much more demanding. The emotions are huge on a mental and emotional level. It’s hard to understand that it’s really the Olympic Games. Of course, it’s different from when I watched the Games on TV. It’s still my dream.

"However, I am happy with the direction our team is taking. The players and the coaching staff have the right energy. We are a collective that needs to get to know each other in a very short period of time. There are players I have never played with before. This is our home Olympics. We have a huge responsibility, which I believe we will assume," Oubemblè said at a press conference.

Oubemblè’s comments reveal the mix of excitement, anticipation and responsibility he feels as he prepares to represent France on basketball’s biggest international stage. That the young star acknowledged the need for the team to quickly develop chemistry, despite having new faces, shows his understanding of the challenges they will face.

Moreover, Oubemblè's confidence in the team's ability to handle the pressure of the home Olympics demonstrates his belief in both his own abilities and those of his teammates. This mindset will undoubtedly be crucial as France aim to put in a strong performance and potentially challenge for a medal.

Oubemblè's reflections provide valuable insight into the mindset of an emerging talent on the verge of reaching the pinnacle of international competition, adding depth to the narrative surrounding his journey and the aspirations of the French national team.
